somehow my emails disappeared and ende up as dbx files/folders on my computer, i don't know how to get them back in thunderbird.
I have a Windows10 PC with Thunderbird as email client. Somehow while selecting and deleting a folder in Thunderbird I ended up loosing most of my folders, they just disappeared. It seems I have found them on the PC but in dbx format. What can I do to get it back in my main folder set in Thunderbird?

What's the timestamp on these dbx files? IIRC this was a format used by Outlook Express, and if you have really been able to get Outlook Express to work on Windows 10, you could become a wealthy man. There are many users who would pay to know how to do this.

I still don't know where to get a freeware program that can convert these files for me this one time. I found some SW but it is all just demos which can do 8 or 10 mails then you need to buy it. I have no intend of spending that much for something I have to use once. Any ideas of a freeware download & use SW that I can try?
re :ended up as dbx files/folders on my computer,
Where on your computer ? Are they in the profile name folders? Or under 'Documents' ?
I very much doubt whether simply deleting a folder would enact such a weird change as altering an text mbox extension and converting it to something not even used in Windows 10.
You would have had to run an mbox to dbx converter program or you are mistaken and those are old files you imported to Windows 10 having used them in the past in OE.
Convert to .eml https://download.cnet.com/DbxConv/3000-2369_4-75185067.html
then use Addon extension ImportExportTools to import .eml files into a 'Local Folders' folder. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
