See attached screenshot. I combine the two events in the same screenshot. The left hand side folder column dissapears after a split second from opening Thunderbird, and I can't get it back.

This problem just started from today.

When using view->folder, then all folders are ticked ok, but folders still doesn't show. Johannes

Is View/Layout/Folder Pane enabled? You may have a broken layout, which can be fixed by launching in safe mode (hold Shift when starting TB) and 'Reset toolbars and controls'.

The view->layout pane was greyed out, so no control there. But I relaunched as you said in safe mode+ reset. The folder column was still hidden, but now I could enable view->Layout_>folder columns. So it's fixed. Thanks for helpful advice. /Johannes
