I have had two email accounts for over 10 years. I have stored every important email locally in my Mac. There are many such important emails. I have closed both accounts with the email service provider and am no longer receiving emails addressed to those two addresses.

I want to delete both accounts from Thunderbird. However, i. I do not want to lose the past emails I have received in those two accounts and ii. Once the accounts have been deleted, how would I go about searching for and reading those old emails.

Thanks for your help,

Francisco

Chosen solution

Create subfolders of Local Folders for each account, then copy the messages to those subfolders. The accounts can then be removed under Tools/Account Settings, Account Actions, and the mail in Local Folders will remain and be available to view and search.

It's at the bottom left, hidden in plain sight (see picture). The default (top) account be removed until another account is set as default, in Account Actions.
