Hello, I would like to know if there is any way to stop Thunderbird to automatically converting ":)" or any other text like this in a big yellow smiley? When writing emails it shows the normal text ":)" etc. but the person that receives, receives the email with the bright yellow smileys and on the Sent items they also show like that. How can I turn it off? Thanks!

Chosen solution

In Thunderbird Menu app icon > Options select 'General' Under 'Language & Appearance' section 'Plain Text Messages' uncheck the checkbox 'Display emotions as graphics' do not select that option and Plain Text email will remain Plain Text with :)

Obviously, that is a setting in Thunderbird on your computer, so it will control how you see what you compose and what you see eg: :) in your Sent folder. How a recipient of your email chooses to see that same email may not be the same. They may choose to see the smiley icon instead. They may choose to colour all the font bright blue instead of eg: black.
