Firefox is just the browser and with default install it has search engine listed that it uses and if want specific search engine you need to make it the homepage to keep it active.

Firefox is a web browser while duckduckgo.com, google.com, bing.com etc are search engines.

The company Mozilla that makes the Firefox web browsers (for desktop and mobile versions for iOS/iPadOS and Android) does not have a search engine service of their own.
