Is the google advertising cookie opt-out plugin safe? Firefox blocked it when I tried to install it. Should I allow it?

Tonight I realized I can stop Google from tracking me for targeted advertising. It's at this link: https://dl-ssl.google.com/optoutplugin/google-optout-plugin.xpi. Firefox blocked it, so I stopped. Is it safe to install it? Thank you.

https://dl-ssl.google.com isn't whitelisted in Allowed Sites for add-ons installation, so you get the warning bar.
