Firefox profile is taking over 250 MB of storage. I did not create it. Do I need this or can I delete to free up space?

I was looking for a file on my HD and did an Explorer *.* search. I found a large number of files created in the past couple of days and, when I opened the location, they are all in a file called AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/cbph5lgo.default/cache. I did not create these and they are taking over 250 MB of storage. What is the purpose of this data and can I delete it?

Have you tried clearing your Firefox cache? How to clear the Firefox cache

It is part of the normal operation of computers to use cache's, it speeds things up. I am guessing that cache size will be small compared to your RAM, and will be minute compared with the size of your Hard Drive.

If you do delete the cache do NOT make a mistake and delete your Firefox profile, because that will destroy your bookmarks, passwords and settings.
