Firefox stopped searching. Does not search with any search engine.

Thank you very much co-rel. I hope you understood that what I said about resetting Firefox was not for you and I obviously mixed up the two answers because you wrote "Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes" which was precisely the very last thing I would do.

I followed your suggestion and that solved the issue.

Thank you again, and I can repeat that your instructions are always the most useful and the best I have seen through the years I read this forum.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

You can check if you still have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the searchplugins folder in Firefox program folder.

If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to delete the search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

Thank you for replying, but as you know that is the last thing I wish to do because I lose all my customization. I have been using this profile for over two years.

II was making many normal searches and suddenly it stopped searching. Is there another not destructive advice you can suggest, please? While reading the forum, before and now, I have notice that you give excellent advices and help, and you have helped me before.
