Some weeks ago Thunderbird stopped connecting to all my imap accounts. It reported the 'too many imap connections' message but I do not think this is the problem for several reasons. I have made sure I have all other phones, tables etc powered down so Thunderbird is the only thing connecting. I have changed the number of connection setting to 1 for all accounts. I have removed the account and recreated it at which point Thunderbird is unable to test the connection successfully. I can still connect to the accounts successfully using telnet - so I know I have the account details correct. All my imap accounts stopped working at the same time - both 1and1 and gmail accounts. Disabling the firewall doesn't make any difference.

I have also tried using other email clients. Outlook which was previously installed and working also will not now connect, so I suspect it is something in the OS on my PC. (Other PC's in the house still connect OK)

Any ideas what I can try other than wiping the whole PC and starting again?

Do you get any error message (except the 'too many imap connections' one)?
