Thank you for coming back to me. Hopefully I am on the right site now. A few days back my laptop computer was compromised and I was instructed by my bank to a factory restart which meant I lost all of my apps etc. I have restored most of my previous apps but have been unable to restore my Thunderbird Email system I have been using for over four years and find it great but I have lost access to all my contact addresses and saved emails. I have tried to restore the system and have reset my password but when I get to the point of completion and click "done" I get the message "unable to log in at the server. Probably wrong configuration, User name or Password. I have been very happy with Thunderbird for many years now and hopefully things can be retreived. I am using Microsoft Mail at the moment so I can send and receive emails. Thank you, Malcolm Gresswell

Hello,

I have two computers running thunderbird on macOS with POP accounts. When checking mail on computer #1, I would like to find a simple way to delete a given email message from server so that it is not retrieved by computer #2. Doing this online is not the solution I am looking for. Regards, Gérald

Hi,

Drag-and-drop of messages in my Thunderbird install has quit working (for a number of weeks now). I've put Thunderbird into Troubleshooting Mode, but it still doesn't work. Also, went ahead and permanently disabled all add-ons and reset Thunderbird settings back to default (actually removed a few out-of-date add-ons as well). Still not working. Tried uninstall and reinstall. Still not working.

Thanks!

tl;dr: How do I import Outlook Express messages?

Background: I used Outlook Express until Microsoft killed it, and have used Outlook 2013 since. Now Microsoft has forced me to abandon that due to Oauth2 not being supported, so I am looking for a replacement.

Thunderbird seems to be a recommended solution, but despite poking around in the community forums and help files, I am not finding straightforward answers to my questions on the current platform. (Side note: I have been using Firefox since it was Phoenix and then Firebird, and then Firefox, but never really used Thunderbird.)

I have a lot of really old .dbx files from Outlook Express. I heard that it is possible to import these into Thunderbird, but can't find any way to do so. These are low priority as they are archives and I just want to view them now and then, so not a deal breaker, but is that possible? It seems like it might require installing quite an old version of Thunderbird to make this happen? I thought I had found an article about it quite some time ago, but I just read through all of the search results for "Outlook Express" and couldn't find anything about bringing the messages in.

I’ve read all the archived queries about this issue. I’m running Windows 11, get my mail via POP, do use folders for sorting mail, but have an Inbox with way too many messages. Once this is fixed, I will do a better grooming the Inbox. The problem started three days ago as a result of my weekly backing up of Thunderbird using MozBackup. I found the very helpful reply by Toad-Hill on 11/7/23 to a similar query, and assume something got corrupted during the backup. (I’ve noticed that folder names get garbled sometimes after a backup.) Following Toad-Hill’s instructions, in Profile Folder > Mail > my-server, I’ve renamed “Inbox” as “OldInbox,” and a new Inbox shows as created in the folder for my mail server, along with a new Inbox.msf .

Now when I open TB, OldInbox exists, and I can read the messages in it. It contained multiple copies of one new message, apparently downloaded every time I tried to Get Messages. BUT ... Inbox continues to show the same old list of emails that used to be there, doesn’t allow me to read any of them, and I still get the error message. Somehow TB isn’t using the new Inbox that was created in Profile Folder > Mail > my-server. I’ve tried clearing the startup cache to no effect. FWIW, I see that in Profile Folder > Mail > Local Folders, there’s an Inbox.msf dated over a year ago. The Sent.msf, Drafts.msf, and Trash.msf in Profile Folder > Mail > Local Folders are up to date. What do I do now? Is it safe and appropriate to copy the new Inbox.msf from Profile Folder > Mail > my-server into Profile Folder > Mail > Local Folders in place of the old Inbox.msf there?

Hello I'm new to Thunderbird for Android. And I'm not really well versed in using all of the options of Gmail. But what I would like to know is how can I sync my folders such as trash or spam with my Gmail account using Thunderbird for Android? I went in and clicked on the sink button to let them sync but they're not doing it. For example I deleted an email and put it into trash but I'd like to archive it. When I go to move it it tells me I cannot move anything from a folder that is not synced. I've searched all over the internet to try to find an answer and I've had no luck. Anybody know what could be the issue?

Background: I used Outlook Express until Microsoft killed it, and have used Outlook 2013 since. Now Microsoft has forced me to abandon that due to Oauth2 not being supported, so I am looking for a replacement.

Thunderbird seems to be a recommended solution, but despite poking around in the community forums and help files, I am not finding straightforward answers to my questions on the current platform. (Side note: I have been using Firefox since it was Phoenix and then Firebird, and then Firefox, but never really used Thunderbird.)

I found and attempted to follow the instructions for import here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-import but it must not work with older versions of Outlook, as I got a message saying "No profile found." (I ran it under the same user, an admin, that has the Outlook 2013 installed, so I don't know where it is looking for that profile). Import from a file doesn't give the option to use the Outlook file types.

So, given that, how can I import my email and address book from Outlook 2013?

Thanks in advance!

I have a problem with receiving POP3 and sending SMTP emails, but it only concerns the Onet (onet.pl and onet.eu) server. All POP3 and SMTP settings are correct, verified. The problem appeared a few days ago, probably after an update. The problem with receiving is when I receive emails in bulk from all accounts by clicking the Download button (Download new messages for all accounts). They are downloaded from all servers, except Onet. This problem does not occur if I download messages from Onet by clicking in the menu File/Download messages from/account name. The problem with sending messages appears when after writing an email I click the Send button (Send this message). There is no problem if I click the File menu/Send later, and then in the Outgoing folder I click Send pending messages. Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

Hello, Since the Oauth2 security from Microsoft, I can't send messages anymore from thunderbird with an outlook adress (but I can receive messages after following instructions) I followed rigourously the instructions from Microsoft and Thunderbird on this two pages : https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/office/param%C3%A8tres-pop-imap-et-smtp-pour-outlook-com-d088b986-291d-42b8-9564-9c414e2aa040 https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentification-thunderbird (These are pages in french because I'm French hence my poor english (sorry for that)) And tried every solution (for instance, the smtp server advised is not the same for Microsoft and Thunderbird, of course I tried both many times)

Thanks for your answers Michel
