Do you have a crash ID? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports
Is this what you need?
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-171f61ff-dd1b-4529-9463-d7fff2141006
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/171f61ff-dd1b-4529-9463-d7fff2141006 is indeed a crash ID, but it's a crash for version 24 from 2014
Under what circumstances is it crashing?
And if it is frequent crash, does crash go away if you have started in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Thanks, I will try for a current crash ID.

1. When reading or moving emails. 2. Yes it still fails in safe mode.

But..... It was that crash report that I quoted in my original post where it says "Version: 38.4.0"...... :-)

You did not post a crash ID (yet) - except the one from 2014 shown in the Troubleshooting Information.
Are you certain Thunderbird is crashing at all? Is it eventually freezing or not responding? Note, this is different than a crash.
