Hi, long time firefox user, always been my favorite browser so I hope this can be fixed. When I type any URL into the address bar, instead of going directly to the website, firefox is searching for the URL with my default search engine. This is unacceptable, as it violates my privacy and security by making my website destinations available to my search provider. I have searched through the settings page as well as my internet options, where i did find a setting that I thought should solve this, but it did not. Please help, I would really like to continue using firefox but will not hesitate to uninstall it if this is not fixed as I am a person who values my internet privacy and security.

When did this start? Your Firefox identified itself as Firefox 52, presumably the Extended Support Release, so you should not have experienced any feature changes in the past 10 months.

Firefox should try recognizable addresses first and not send them to search unless there are spaces or other characters that would be illegal in a web address. It's hard to think of any way to change that without an add-on. Do you have any search-related extensions?

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Any improvement?
