Have tried using the suggested settings: imap.comcast.net using 993 SSL/TLS and smtp.comcast.net using 465 SSL/TLS (both using "Normal Password") but only get "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account." I also tried the alternate port 587 for smtp. My username and password are correct as I can still get into the web-based email function at xfinity, but i would like to get all my emails in one place.

re : My username and password are correct as I can still get into the web-based email function at xfinity,

If you have just downloaded Thunderbird...... Exit Thunderbird. Access Firewall. Please make sure your 'Firewall' (which may be part of your Anti-Virus program) is set to allow 'Mozilla Thunderbird'. It it is not allowed then the Firewall could be blocking access.

Start Thunderbird and retry creating mail account.

  • 'Menu icon' > 'New Message' > 'Existing Mail Account'
  • Enter name
  • Enter full email address
  • Enter password - same one you use to acces webmail
  • select checkbox to remember password
  • click on 'Continue'

Thunderbird will attempt to locate settings. Make sure the correct type of account is selected eg: Pop or Imap. You can click on 'Manual Config' button to check and adjust settings.

In Thunderbird the 'User Name' will be your full email address.
