How to prevent all traffic (in and out) in INactive tabs!?
Searched a lot, nothing found, and not in privacy settings either: How to have only the ACTIVE browser tab exchange information? ie how to PREVENT that INactive tabs exchange information, whether that's gmail, push notifications, or whatever, an INactive tab should NOT let anything in nor out if the user decides so.
I appreciate that some users enjoy this quiet, secretive information exchange in some tabs (say gmail), and a few users possibly don't mind if any of their tabs secretly communicate with the ISP or server, but I don't, and I can bet if they are made aware of it, most users don't, they just don't even know!
So please, anyone got some helpful advice how to prevent all traffic (in and out) in INactive tabs!?

Can I be honest? I wouldn't know why to thank you, you totally wasted my time (and yours): 8 (EIGHT!) links, and NONE has the slightest to do with my suggestion, that is an achievement! At school we would have gotten one worse than fail. Like "failed really badly", for the parents, you know.
Now I fear no one gonna ACTUALLY address this thread, after you watered it down with....
Why thank you for such kind words and display of appreciation Firefox Volunteers thrive for that as we spend our spare time helping other users.
You are not "helping other users". In fact, now AGAIN you are wasting my time and your time too.
Exactly like I said the first time. So stop. You have already destroyed my thread here. Should I thank you for that?
Having read you original post, I say : hats off to Pkshadow, cause it must have taken him quite some time to find the links he gave you - especially since you don't specify what you mean by "secretive information exchange".
Your behavior towards Pkshadow is beyond rude and an apology wouldn't go amiss, don't you agree ?
Push notifications work all the time, even if you do not have a tab open to that website because they work with ServiceWorker. The only way to disable all push notifications is to remove this worker.
- Page -> Info -> Permissions: Receive Notifications
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Permissions -> Notifications
You can see all registered service workers on this page: about:serviceworkers You can check the WebSockets stats via this page: about:networking#websockets
The first extension that Pkshadow mentioned can suspend all JavaScript on inactive tabs, so it shouldn't be possible that scripts initiate data transfers
- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/auto-tab-discard/
- 6. When a tab is discarded, no JavaScript code or dom event is active. Basically, the tab is paused.
