TB will not accept a valid web based gmail password
I have, and use, a valid password to access my gmail on the web. I used TB for years to access my mail. About one month ago, TB stopped accepting the password. I can't remember changing the web password, but maybe I did. This is an IMAP server account (imap.googlemail.com).

Delete the gmail passwords and oauth:// entries from Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, restart TB, and enter the new password in the OAuth2 browser window when prompted.

Exactly what error are you seeing?
I receive the following message:
Login to server imap.googlemail.com with username saklaspaa@gmail.com failed.
and it offers three choices to click on: Retry Enter New Password and Cancel
If I then load my gmail from the web, Google sends the following message:
Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your account from a non-Google app. Google blocked them, but you should check what happened. Review your account activity to make sure no one else has access. Check activity

Change the Authentication method for the incoming server (IMAP) to OAuth2.

I changed the authentication method to OAuth2. I closed TB. I reloaded TB and even before I was asked to input a password I received the following error message:
