Thunderbird 78 release - e-mails don't download from marcaria.com anymore.
I use Thunderbird to download my e-mails from three domains. - yahoo.com.au - russell.im - anglosunshine.com
The latter two are hosted by Marcaria.com
After migrating to version 78 of Thunderbird, I had to re-authenticate with Yahoo - which was successful - to continue downloading my e-mail, but e-mails from russell.im and anglosunshine.com ceased. No error is thrown up. I tried: - removing the password - to prompt for new password to be entered. No prompt. - turning off my Nortons firewall - no effect - setting up new account - to check the server settings. Server settings identical.
I can view the e-mails by a web client (from Marcaria.com).
the problem seems to be linked to Thunderbird. Any help please?

found the problem. e-mail host has disallowed POP. Only now allowing IMAP. which is a bit of a pain, as I preferred to download all e-mails and store them locally on my computer.

did you try turning of the norton mail scanner?
Clearly the firewall is not an issue if Thunderbird can get mail from any provider at all. However without the server settings being used it is rather difficult to guess what the issue might be.
However the most common mystery tour with V78 is the use of TLs connection security on severs that do not support TLS versions greater the 1.1 or do not offer certificates for the server being connected to but some parent company certificate.
Thank you for the suggestion. It was a good idea but it didn't solve my problem. Security applications can be a source of all sorts of problems to do with connectivity.
I first turned off all the options in Nortons. When I still couldn't download the e-mails, I uninstalled Nortons and restarted my computer. With no anti-virus software, the e-mail problem still persists.
The server settings are: - port 110 - connection security STARTTLS - authentication method: Encrypted password
I had already removed the password, so I know that Thunderbird is not even getting to the point to ask for the password.
I also have Yahoo e-mail which uses: - port 995 - connection security SSL/TLS - Authentication method: OAuth2 Yahoo is okay.
Is there another suggestion? or is there an opportunity to downgrade Thunderbird to a prior release?
Thank you.
Post Script: I can actually send outward e-mail using my russell.im domain. I just can't receive. It uses port 587: Authentication: normal password connection security: STARTTLS

Interesting. I checked your domain for SSL/TLS and it appeared not to have any but you say you connect using STARTTLS
I have the same problem with "mail.anythingemail.com". These guys have been hosting my email and website since ~1995. They are established and have been great. I use the standard POP & SMTP ports (110 & 587), using STARTTLS & "normal password". I have changed nothing in acct settings since the v78.4 update. Prior to that I would get a prompt to enter the password for the server account.
Here is a link to the "htbridge.com/ssl" test results. I am not good enough to evaluate on my own. https://www.immuniweb.com/ssl/?id=QrNIrsKv
Please point out the "fatal" incompatibility in their results. It says that TLS1.0 support is "good configuration", but with Thunderbird config settings of "security.tls.version.min;1" & "security.tls.version.enable-deprecated;true", I never get a prompt to enter the password.
Thunderbird connects, but the connection times out. I will find another email client, if you can't help me.
