After upgrading to 5.0 from 4.0, all my bookmarks in my booksmarks toolbar were lost and appear to be un-recoverable.

Recently my Firefox 4.0 auto updated to 5.0. After the install, all the previous kept bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar have disappeared. I have attempted to restore my bookmarks using the JSON files I have stored, including one from the day before updating. When I attempt to restore them, either no bookmarks are loaded, or I am prompted with an "Unable to restore from selected file" error message. I am deeply frustrated by this, as this has occurred on my work terminal which contained a multitude of work required bookmarks, in the bookmark toolbar. Is there anyway to restore the bookmarks I have lost?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
