You should keep your Add-ons updated as they may contain security or stability updates and new features.

You can turn off the automatic checking by going to Tools > Options > Advanced > Update (Firefox 4 and later: Firefox button > Options > Options > Advanced > Update), then un-check "Add-ons" in the top section.

You can then manually check for updates any time you wish by opening the update window,

  • Firefox 3.6.x: Tools > Add-ons > Extensions, click "Find Updates" at the bottom of the Add-ons window
  • Firefox 4 and later: Firefox button > Add-ons > Extensions, click the "gear" icon to the left of "Search" at the top right, and choose "Check for Updates".

Your version of Firefox is 4 updates behind; current version in the 3.6.x series is 3.6.22 and you are using Firefox 3.6.18. You can perform the incremental manual update (smaller download) or download the full installer (larger download).

  • Manual update
    • Firefox 3.6.x: click Help > Check for Updates
    • Firefox 4 and later: click Firefox button > About Firefox > Check for Updates
  • Full installer update
