Try Firefox in firefox's safe mode which is probably accessible from pressing the Shift key as you try to start it up. If you do try safe mode, do not make changes when you see the window with a list of options, just click on continue.
What exactly happens and do you get any error messages ?
See also firefox hangs
it just freezes and does nothing, I have to use task manager to close it.
Have you tried Firefox in safe mode ?
Did you read the article firefox hangs when is firefox hanging, do you notice any pattern to this.
You mention "freezes when I try to type after reboot"
- What are you trying to type into ?
- what is it you are doing ? (just typing a web address into the location bar ? )
- Why do you need to reboot the computer, is it crashing ?
- if so when is it crashing, is this when you use firefox or for other reasons ?
I use dogpile.com as my search engine and when I type in the search bar it freezes my page.
Is it only the one search engine dogpile.com that causes the problem ?
if so yhe problem may be more to do with a slow site/app than a problem with Firefox.
Are you trying that just from a link/bookmark or have you installed it as a search engine ?
I have just tried the link myself, and with the couple of search terms I tried it worked but did take a long time (many seconds) to list results. Try it in a tab with another tab open, is Fireox then able to use the second tab ok, e.g. browsing this forum or typing a reply whilst searching dogpile.com in the other tab ?
ok I just tried to open another tab and tried to type in the address bar and it froze firefox.
Did you try in Firefox's safe mode, and also disabling plugins?
I have asked you twice now about safe mode, are you having some problem with trying that ?
no I haven't tried safe mode yet, but will. I'm doing windows updates now. when they are done I'll boot up in safe mode.
Whilst doing your updates it is also worth updating any Firefox plugins and add-ons. Note the Firefox Safe Mode is not the same as the Microsoft Safe Mode that Windows has.
i tried it in safe mode, it still doesn't work....
