Firefox 18.0.1 on PC will not launch from short cut or taskbar....again, second time........why????
This has happen 2 times now. Last week then this week. Firefox is working fine, close the program, go and do something else then come back to it and it just won't launch. I tried again and again but to no avail. Removed Firefox then using EI go to download from the website and it won't work. (What?) I've had to go around the main web page and go to the international page and select English (US) and then it downloads and installs. Everything is back to normal. So my real question is....why does this keep happening???? Rather frustrating I must say.

Do you get any error messages?
Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that there isn't a hanging Firefox or plugin-container process left in the task manager.
Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe mode:
- On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
- On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
- Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Thanks for your reply.
I don't get an error message. Just nothing happens when I try to launch. Double-click. Nothing. Weird.
As for starting in safe mode....no dice. Tried that. Only thing that works is un-installing and re-installing.
I will try the Firefix/file > Exit routine this week. See if that does anything.
Peace.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
