I cannot open PDFs. It says that it is not supported, but that I may be able to open the document natively?

I disabled the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI plug in and it is finally opening up a download box. However, once I go to open the document a box called file conversion pops up and it asks me to select the encoding that makes your document readable. I picked Max OS (default) and the document opens with weird computer jargon. I'm not sure where to go from here.

The Adobe Reader plugin may not be working properly on Mac.

Disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

When I followed the steps that you indicated above there is no option to use an external adobe reader application or preview application instead. I attached a screen shot of what I saw. I really appreciate any help that you can give me.

OMG. I think that I finally fixed it. Thank you for your suggestion. I ended up downloading a PDF add-on which seemed to fix the problem. : )
