After I updated Firefox, it will work until I restart my computer. Then it simply won't open at all and will eventually come up with a blank window that doesn't respond. I've had this issue for months and have simply switched to Google Chrome because I didn't have the time to deal with it anymore. I'm not a novice user and I've tried everything: It won't start in safe mode. I've done a complete clean install, even deleting the profile information. I've checked my firewall and my antivirus programs, and they're not the culprit. I've fully scanned my computer for viruses/malware. My computer is completely up to date.

I don't really know what else to do. It will only work on a fresh install before I restart my computer. There are no crash reports I can give because it's not crashing..It simply won't open. I'm running Windows 7 on a Thinkpad Edge.

Solución elegida

i think i found a solution. I managed to get my firefox to work by first reinstalling firefox, and then opening it without restarting. then i looked at plugins and disable non-essential (essential being flash, shock, silerlight, quicktime, adobe etc). In my case it was trueSuite website login, then i restarted my computer to check if the problem was fixed. And it was fixed... at least for now. Will keep updated if anything happens. Hope this helps.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Same issue, except this time it actually came up with an error (Firefox closed unexpectedly, try starting in safe mode). I tried starting Firefox in safe mode also, and it didn't start at all.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open this page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

There was only one crash report, and the file was "InstallTime20130409194949". Inside it says, "1367895740".

That is not a crash report, but a logging message that Firefox has been updated or reinstalled on May 7th 2013

Crash reports that have been send should be in the submitted folder and show as .txt files that start with a "bp-" prefix

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx.txt

Alright, well that was the only thing in the crash reports folder. It never generates a crash report, it just hangs indefinitely until I force close it in the task manager.

Why don't you read bp's original question?? He said he already tried to open in safe mode and he already did all the things you suggest. I have the same problem, there is NO crash report, only Firefox does not open after the pc is restarted. NOTHING is working here?!?!

Yeah, I ended up just deleting Firefox and downloading Chrome. Much better solution.

Google Chrome has been known to have a lot of security issues and violate the users' privacy.

Are you still interested in fixing your Firefox issue or are you just going to stick with Google Chrome.

I'm open to suggestions.

You can try removing all Firefox files from your computer and starting from scratch.

This option can be difficult.

Is this an option you would consider?

can you launch into the firefox profile manager?

and create a new profile, if it works you can try to recover some info from the previous profile

I've already tried both of those. I uninstalled and removed the appdata and installation folder. I made sure there was nothing left from Firefox on my computer, but the problem persists. I assume it may be a problem with the registry.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Try this:

  1. Download CCleaner

The process shows up, but it never opens.

Do you have any form of a Firefox Preload tools installed on your computer?

How long do you allow Firefox to try opening before ending the process?

Try downgrading to an older version of Firefox. If it starts up with the older version, then try upgrading to Firefox 22.0.

WARNING: Using old versions of Firefox poses a significant security risk.

I don't have any Firefox Preload tools.

I have left it open for 5mins.

I just tried version 18 and it does the same thing.
