After compacting archived folders, all folders and messages in them are gone

more options

This morning, my Thunderbird told me it could not download any new messages because I was out of room and advised me to compact folders. I emptied the trash and compacted. I then compacted the archive folders. Big mistake. Now all of the folders in my archives are gone as are all the email in them. We're talking about emails from all the way back to 2007. After reading some answers on this forum, it appears that I should definitely not have compacted the archived folders but didn't give any answer on how to get back my emails. I just did a restore from my MozBackup program from 8/5 and it changed nothing. Please tell me these emails aren't gone for good!
