Hi, do you use Firefox Sync to manage your information? If not, your information are into your profile file (a local file where are store your preferences) and in this case, we cannot help you more than we are doing :(

  Thanks for your quick response.  :)  I don't use FireFox Sync but I do have a backup of my entire profile from various points in the past, it's part of my backup stream.  If I was to restore my entire profile from one of these backups, would that interfere with the Quantum installation?  And if so, is there a way to import my bookmarks from the backup?

  Following Pkshadow's link, I restored my places.sqlite from my backup which had no effect.  As a last ditch effort, I copied all files and folders from my backup but it didn't help.  I'm thinking there must be some fundamental change to the way the bookmarks are stored.  As I mentioned earlier, some of my bookmarks are there but all of my folders and subfolders are gone.  This should be reported as a bug to the devs.  I'll have to spend hours manually recreating all of my folders and bookmarks from another computer that is still running an older version of FF.  I do appreciate your suggestions and quick response.  :)

hi, in the firefox quantum default layout the combined library icon for bookmarks/history/downloads...) is replacing your bookmarks button that you're used to - when you go into customization mode, you can place the dedicated bookmarks button back onto the toolbar though ;-)

  Thanks for that!  Using the link you sent I was able to add a link to my Bookmarks Menu onto my Bookmarks Toolbar and now can see my original bookmarks.  I think that the devs may want to consider making this a bit more obvious to cut down on support requests but I am VERY grateful for the help.  Cheers!  :)

My bookmarks are completely gone along with bookmarks toolbar. No history of any sort showing..along with the warning in red "the bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of firefox's files is in use etc.. I have tried several things but nothing works. I just want the bookmarks back. I tried the help section that the warning led me to but this didn't help.

I went to Mozilla support and specified Bookmarks and got the instructions for importing from Chrome or Safari - I did the import from Chrome.

I am having to manually DRAG EACH FOLDER from "Chrome bookmarks" to the Bookmarks Toolbar - BUT at least I'm getting them back!

Doesn't FF work with Xmarks any longer????

I see a yellow triangle BANG which says "Reconnect to Synch", but it doesn't recognize the last password I have stored for it and I'm VERY leery about what it has to say about changing the password and losing data. I haven't used Synch in years!

Furthermore, Synch is of little use to me since I want to synchronize WITH other browsers - Chrome in particular but also Safari. Chrome displays YouTube videos Firefox will not and is also compatible with commercial web sites that do not support FIrefox.

After the upgrade, my bookmarks were not completely gone but were hidden in the "library" (the icon in the toolbar is a representation of books on a shelf) along with history & downloads etc. The ones remaining seemed to be a random selection with many missing. I solved it with this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1185043 Once I had moved the bookmarks icon from the Customize window to my toolbar, I had the same old drop-down bookmarks menu as before the upgrade.

If your bookmarks are completely gone, then I can offer no help.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I had already been through all of those options. It seems that quantum has completely lost all the stuff..i found the icon for the bookmarks but nothing there. In the end i just uninstalled firefox completely and reinstalled chrome and chrome had all my bookmarks! This is an issue i think firefox might want to address. I spent 5 hours trying to get to the bottom of it,most disappointing as quantum looked like it might be good.!

I too have lost ALL my bookmarks in FF 57 - apparently, BECAUSE Xmarks downloaded. While the Xmarks server HAS all the COMPLETE information, folders and contents, somehow the download process wipes out the entire contents of the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar!

The BEST solution to losing bookmarks is to ALWAYS have another browser to go to.

MANY commercial (and even government) websites I depend on for clothing and other needs do not fully support Firefox, making it impossible to complete orders or forms.

For this reason, I always keep Chrome available and use Xmarks to synchronize bookmarks.

Importing BACK from Chrome is simple - but it takes a little time to move all the folders to the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Quantum IS blazingly fast. But speed at the expense of features is of VERY little value - especially when the things we absolutely depend upon - the organization and content of our bookmarks to all our common sites - are wiped out!

PRESENTLY, Quantum = constant recovery and rebuilding. But NOT productivity.

Anyway, IF you have another browser installed, look up the MOZILLA instructions to import from it and you will be OK.

If Firefox cannot be synchronized with Chrome and Safari via Xmarks, then I don't see how I can continue to use Firefox - and I've been a LOYAL user and ADVOCATE since release 0.9 (zero point nine). I now pity anyone I heped install Firefox, since I expect they, like me, are now up a creek!

All my bookmarks and extensions are gone after upgrade to Quantum. Why Firefox team decide not to warn users that the whole browser configuration bookmarks/extensions/themes/history everything! disappear after upgrade to Quantum? I would not upgrade in this case. I did not use sync. Any chances to restore my lost bookmarks?

Old profiles and backup are lost too. No way to restore anything from there since they are just absent. Gone. Saved passwords are lost. Everything :( Why to use FireFox now?

I just want to say that if you are on Windows 10 and do an update from an older Firefox to Quantum, DO NOT continue to use the pinned link in taskbar. Remove it and drag link to Quantum to taskbar. Solved my problems with all of this.

This is absolute crap. I used to be a complete advocate of firefox, years and years of bookmarks, logins, passwords, extensions, all of it gone. I've tried all of the poor support recommendations found here on this page and nothing is working. I've used firefox sync for years, have never had any problems at all. But now because of the FORCED UPDATE I have lost everything. I see absolutely no reason to continue using such a shit browser now. None of the "legacy" extensions I used are even supported anymore, the new interface is too dumbed down for what it needs to be, nothing works anymore, AND you forced an update which caused me to lose years of work. I'll never use firefox again, thanks!

Please, before you go, just try this. Believe me I felt the same way, and it took a lot of Googling to find it in language I could understand.

So, open Firefox. Clik on the 3 horizontal stripes at the top right of the screen, to open the full menu. Select Customize and you will see all the menu items, including your beloved bookmarks. I was so pleased when I found mine. Any of these can be dragged to the menu bar - the area to the right of the address bar.

Once you're used to the changes, the new version works great. Only disadvantage is that you can"t get new tabs to open in your homepage. Anyway, I hope this help.

Hey, chill out man. I joined this discussion to help someone who thought they had lost their bookmarks, not to get into a philosophic debate. I started to use Firefox in the mid 90's and have stayed with it. For those who use software because it WORKS for them, chrome is a great option (even though I find it "dumbed down").

There are far more important things in the world to get worked up about (ridding the world of religion, ridding the US of Trump and ridding Palestine of the Jewish occupation, to name but three - not forgetting climate change and fossil fuels) but the Mozilla support forum is not really the place. I myself suffer from what I like to call "i-phobia" - I am allergic to all things Apple - even i-tunes, but that's my trip and needs no discussion here. Use whatever browser you like (and I feel that mac users should only be allowed to use Safari), but don't rant on about it here.

I was the one who started this post. After the automatic upgrade to Quantum, I thought I had lost all my bookmarks. It turns out that my bookmarks were simply not shown by default. While I think the developers made a mistake by not showing the bookmarks by default and causing some panic, the fix was relatively simple. Once I had my bookmark situation sorted out, I do find Quantum to be a big step in the right direction.  :)
