Backup your bookmarks and other things, you'll need. Uninstall firefox, restart your machine. Use adwcleaner adwcleaner - Clean the errors if there are some

Then use a registry cleaner like ccleaner for lost entries - Clean also here

Install an AD-Blocker in firefox Install the google-analytics addon Google-Analytics AddOn

Reset the Internet Options in Windows 7 Change or reset Internet Explorer Settings

Check if the error exist.

Check also this link for the latest SSU's for Windows 7

Windows 7 SSU Updates

Start Windows Update to look for pending Updates.

When this all won't work, delete also the firefox profile folder, after you uninstall the firefox. But repeat the procedure with adwcleaner and ccleaner.

Can you, please make a screenshot about your installed Software ?

Reply back, pls

Hi, here are my suggestions which I would try in this order:

Hold down the Shift key when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If it works in Safe Mode, disable any theme or extensions you have - 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Themes/Extensions and restart Firefox; then if it's OK, re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some extensions.

Make sure you are using the default Google search: 3-bar Menu > Options > Search, and click on Restore Default Search Engines at the bottom of the page (if it's greyed out, you are already using the default). You may need to select Google again afterwards.

You can also check your Firefox Desktop shortcut for corruption: Right click on it > Properties, and in Target, make sure there is no sign of anything other than Firefox. If there is, delete that part of it. Or if it's easier, you can just delete it and recreate a new shortcut. More: Wrong home page opens when I start Firefox - How to fix.

Another thing you can do, is to search for the malware in your PC's search box and programs - look for any recently installed programs that you don't recognise - not necessarily Yahoo, because it may be masquerading under a different name. What is search hijacking?.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

A better ad-blocker is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin If you use it, disable or remove Adblock Plus first.

Incidentally, if you still use Flash, it needs to be updated: Install Flash Player - take care to deselect any optional offers!

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please help other users by marking the best reply as Solved. Thank you!

This "Ads by ____" malware problem keeps returning under different names. For example:

I suggest working with one of those forums on a thorough cleaning of your system if the following does not help:

Review Connection Settings

Please check your connection settings here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button, which you can click.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to a flaky connection. You may want to try "No proxy".

Any difference?

Clean Reinstall

This takes about 5 minutes. It's not about your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. It's not essential to uninstall Firefox, but you can if you like, saying No to any request about removing personal data.

It only takes a few minutes.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox to a convenient location:

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

If you use Microsoft Office, please change your default browser to Internet Explorer temporarily before the next step.

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer (hold down the Windows key and press E to launch it), right-click > rename the program folder as follows (you might have one or both):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement?

Do you want to share your current extensions list? You can copy/paste it from the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down past "Application Basics" and "Firefox Features" to "Extensions". Then you can select and copy the table that follows (not the entire page, please, that's too much information) using either Ctrl+c or right-click > Copy and then paste it into a reply. It will be messy, but we're used it.

Look also under Processes, sometimes the uninstalled antivirus softwares have entries in the registry or as a service.
