Is this about an HTML backup or about a (possibly compressed) JSON backup?

An HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1> A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":

Hi, did any of the file load at all?

Firefox has two options you might have selected:

  • The "Backup" feature creates a .json file
  • The "Export" feature creates a .html file

Import is used with the .html file and Restore ("Choose File") is used with the .json file.

If you are not sure what the file actually is, you can open it in a tab in Firefox. HTML files render as web pages, while JSON files render as tree-structured data. If Firefox can't show the file in a tab, then, hmm, we'll have to suggest other options for seeing what's in it.
