I just got a brand new laptop with Windows 7 on 12/26/12 and while loaded needed drivers for programs I use, a "Yahoo" search engine appeared at the top of the page. Last night, 12/28 I finally got rid of it but lost the "most visited" option at the top left of my page in the process. I have tried many remedies to re-install it including re-loading Firefox but it did not work. Can anyone out there tell me with Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox, how to get my "most visited" option back where it should be. It is now showing up in my "Bookmarks" but I don't know how to get it back where it was. As a matter of fact, not only did I loose that but as I can best remember, there was a "getting started option on that line, and something else. The whole line where "most visited" was located is now gone. If anyone knows, can you please help with this. Thanks Glenn

This search bar may have been added by an extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thanks for the reply but already tried these. The getting rid of the Yahoo Search was resolved last night. The problem now is that when I did that, I lost "most visited" and want it back. I no longer have Yahoo. I just need to get "most visited places" back. It does show up on my Bookmarks and someone told me to drag and drop it in the left corner where it should be but that didn't work. I have it but not where it is convenient like before. Do you know of any solutions to this? Thanks for your help. Glenn

Do you still have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible with the bookmarks on it?

If that is the case then see:

Otherwise check this:

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible:

  • Firefox > Options
  • "View > Toolbars"

Open the Customize window to set which toolbar items to display:

  • View > Toolbars > Customize
  • Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout
  • Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up
