Whenever I try to save a file on Firefox 30.0 the browser just crashes. Happens always as the "save file as"-window appears - making usage of Firefox impossible. I have to use Chrome to download files :( Any help? The problem started just as I upgraded to Firefox 30.0. I have also tried to disable all plugins with no help - I'm using Mac OS X 10.9.2 and now FF 31.0

Hi niinistoo, Thank you for your question, I understand that when you try to save a file from Firefox it crashes, and we are happy to help.

A few troubleshooting questions:

  1. What is "Antaa tietoa oletusselaimesta" plug in?
  2. Also, how far do you get before it crashes? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-fi...
  3. Does this happen in Safe Mode? Ratkaise Firefoxin ongelmia vikasietotilan avulla

Looking forward to your reply!

I have no idea what the first question says.. That translation is really weird.. But still - I tried to start Firefox without plugins and after that I reseted the whole thing. No luck unfortunately :(

Whenever I choose to save file as it either crashes as soon as I click the save as button. Sometimes it asks whether I want to "open with" or "save as". Both of those end up with the same outcome - firefox crashes.

There is a file in your profile that remember the action preferences for certain files types within the browser. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/set-how-firefox-handles-different-fi...I believe this is also where the actions you mentioned that are crashing. Change what Firefox does when you click on or download a file

To do a quick experiment, you can save this file as a different name and a new one will be created.(filename: mimeTypes.rdf.old) Another easier way is to see if this also crashes in a new profile. All of which are covered in the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files

Thank you also for the crash details. In order to submit crashes you can go to the url about:crashes and click "Submit" button.

Thank you for posting back, and looking forward to your reply!

First of all I wanna thank you a lot for helping me with this issue! Still no luck fixing it though..

I deleted the mimetypes.rdf and reseted some user set values on about:config. I also tried every step on this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files - still crashing.

This is how my about:config looks like when searched "browser.download" http://gyazo.com/3791de31a7c22bb72f99f77916c2ad11

One more thing I have just noticed:

https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/gallery/images/2013-03-08-10-27-21-6ecc37.png

Clicking "Choose.." in the settings will also crash firefox with the following details:

Also here is how Firefox handles files on my browser. This is how ALL of them are set up after reseting them. (..and still crashing)

http://gyazo.com/1ccd15c912f0544db674dd82de913d54 http://gyazo.com/03b33c3f80b2ba6de55da0a6ee047057 http://gyazo.com/ecbc483f71ac9086ea9b3fd4c8b874f6

I think it has something to do with downloads folder(?) As Firefox also crashes when I try to change that folder in the settings. I use the default Downloads folder from OS X - Chrome and Safari use that same folder yet no crashing.

more options

Ok this is strange! But I also do not have an VLC.app file type in the Content Type column, how did you do this?

No crashing in other browsers also makes me think that I may need to ask if it occurs in Safe Mode, the link that translated incorrectly in the earlier post (my mistakeRatkaise Firefoxin ongelmia vikasietotilan avulla )

Is there a chance the you submitted the crash reports, the signature and stack trace can give an idea on what may be happening right before the crash.

Also one of the listed add ons above have been noted as a virus when I did a search. The second one, Avast, does this happen when you temporarily disable Avast? I think the last one is ABP, not sure if this would cause a crash.

I just noticed that both Chrome and Safari have now the same problem. It has something to do with my "Downloads"-folder. Whenever I try to open that folder using a selection inside a program (like Firefox) that program crashes.

Seems that Firefox is not the cause of this problem but that folder itself. I will contact my local Apple store and hope that they would figure this out..

Thank you for helping me!
