Firefox doesn't start - no message, just exits

more options

I was running Firefox on my Windows machine with a few add-ons without any problems. Today, it updated to 44.0.2. After that, it frooze within a minute after starting it (every time).

So I uninstalled it and installed 43.0.4 (and later installed 44.0.2). The installation seemed to go just fine. But when I start Firefox, nothing happens. I tried re-installing and rebooting several times and I have also completely removed the profile data (as far as I know).

One time, after a new installation, and starting Firefox while holding down the shift key, it showed a window saying it is checking my plugins. When that was done, Firefox was gone (no message, no more Firefox process running).

If I look at the task manager while double clicking Firefox I see the Firefox process starting and then disappearing. Nothing happens.

What to do?

Hello gert-jan.strik

any luck if you boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) and then see if that allows to start firefox.

If firefox works in Windows Safe mode then probably you have problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer. Please remove all rules for Firefox and plugin-container from the permissions list in the your firewall and let your firewall ask again for permissions to get full access to Firefox installation and at the plugin-container process and also for updater process.

thank you

Hi ideato, thanks for responding.

I was not able to do this. If I choose anything other than "normal mode", it asks me for the Bitlocker key, which I don't have. Maybe I can get it from our company helpdesk (I am running Windows 7 Enterprise Edition).

Is there any other way to analyze this? Some log file or something?

Thanks.
