HI Yahzi, I checked the Salon website you mentioned an noticed that the Comments did take a long time to load. However Safe Mode would not affect scripts on the page the errors in the web console showed only a single origin issue with the style sheet, but this worked in Beta.

Do you have javascript blocked? Also if you update to version 32, are you still seeing this?

You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.

about:config

1. In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
3. In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
4. Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.

Note: If it is a single origin, it would just give a warning. But searching for "xorigin" in about:config.

That is not entirely true because safe mode disables the JavaScript JIT compilers and thus scripts can run slower and complicated can take more time to finish.

There can also be AJAX calls involved to retrieve data from the server. I'm not sure if the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) would cache such request and possibly the Live Http Headers extension would be better suited to investigate possible issues.

You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). Check on the Network tab if any content is blocked and has a file size 0 (zero).

Here's another thing: sometimes there is a little sidebar in the article showing the top comment and a button that says "Join in." That works! It takes me to the comments page (even though all it appears to do is add #comments to the page address). But then the comments button on the comments page does not take me back out to the article.

Typing in the article's page address (without the #comments) takes me back to the article; but typing in the address with the #comments does not take me back to the comments!

So there is one button that enters a page address and displays the comments. The other button doesn't work; typing the page address doesn't work.

Any idea what is going on here?

Now if I click on the icon in the top right corner

But if I click on the Join in button on the left side in the middle of the article

As far as I can tell they are doing the exact same thing, so why does one work and one not? Note that this all works fine on another computer, and I think if I uninstall and reinstall FF it will work again - for a while, at least.

I clicked the far right, and this is what I got;

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Open the Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift> A and disable All of them.

Does it disable more add-ons than starting in Safe mode? Also, I can't disable add-ons. The only option I get is to "Ask to Activate."

Open the Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift> A. On the left side of the page, select Extensions. Go thru the list and disable all toolbars, anti-virus, and anything you don't need for now.

Then Restart Firefox.

Why do people keep telling me to disable everything? I said I started in Safe Mode. Safe Mode disables everything anyway. On top of that I have disabled all (2) add-ons that I use.

Oh I see, this may be a javascript programming event handler that only adds the #comments if you click a certain portion. Manually adding it would not work. However both places you describe work just fine, which is why disabling addons and extensions would eliminate those being an issue. Extensions are not disabled in safe mode.

I have 3 extensions: Epub reader, S3 Organizer, and Troubleshooter. They are all disabled. No change.

I can reproduce this on a Windows 8 machine. It does not reproduce on a mac. There is a warning in the error console that an object could not be converted to a string. Can you please contact the developer of the site about this page. I also am seeing a capacity warning for the site. 503 server error.

I thought it once worked on my Win 8 box. but I can't be sure. It doesn't work on my other Win 8 box either.

Here we go: "Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at http://slate-static-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/etc/designs/slate/fonts/Rockwell/859a3dd0-b038-40f9-80be-d76bf46404d1-3.woff. This can be fixed by moving the resource to the same domain or enabling CORS."

I changed the url to have a https:// in front of it, because the stie goes not have encryption. Then I received a Mixed content error. Changing the built in did not help either.

However this link does not work in other browsers either. Please do contact the developer.

Slate's comments work fine in other browsers. They also work in Firefox on Windows 7. I think they work in Firefox and Win 8.1 if you don't install the S3 Organizer (but not sure); however, disabling the S3 Organizer doesn't help.
