I have 2 screen shots to clearly show all this but the program here won't allow me to upload them. They are in a word "docx" file and this just whirls on and on pretending to upload but never does.

The body of the email was replaced with the body of an email that was in a Local Folder ICIT, and not THAT email body is replaced with one trashed earlier in the week. It seems the trashed email body went to another message body, and that body was moved to a 3rd email. The headers did not get moved, just the body of them.

This is the 2nd time in about a year this switching occurred, the first I wrote off as an e-fluke. All my email accounts are gmail. This cheapened all within the same account, but across more than one Local Folder.

A Word document file is not an image file, it is a word processing document. You can only upload images.

Create screendump using 'Prt Scr' key on keyboard. Open a simple program that deals with images eg: Paint Use 'Ctrl+V' to paste into 'Paint'. Save image as .jpg then upload the image file.

Test to see if this is an indexing issue:

  • Right click on folder and select 'Properties'
  • clickon 'Repair Folder' button
  • click on 'OK'

The damaged email is in the In box and so Properties opens a search session not the same options as Properties in a Local Folder.

I am trying to attach a 266 KB .jpg showing the 2 folders involved with "replaced" message bodies. It says UPLOADING forever so I have no idea if it is actually going to come through. This is annoying to do and taking way too much time. Maybe I need a new email. If you can see the first .jpg is the In Box , where we see a Joyce Meyer Ministries email highlighted but a Pastor Francis message body. The email was never moved from In Box, it was being saved there. The second .jpg is my Local Folder named ICIT which is where I put Pastor Francis emails. (I did the Repair function here but nothing was fixed.) I wanted to see what had happened to the email with the message body now attached to In Box Joyce Meyer email. Highlighted is the message header that should give me the message body that is now attached to the Inbox Joyce Meyer email; now that message header is incorrectly showing the body of a totally deleted message received last week about a meeting in Florida. That Florida message was never moved from In Box to the local folder, it was read and permanently "trashed" and then the trash emptied.

re :The damaged email is in the Inbox and so Properties opens a search session

That's because you are using the 'Unified' view and therefore the unified Inbox is a virtual folder. It is the accumulated result of a search on all the mailaccount's Inboxes.

So the actual mailbox Inboxes maybe perfectly ok.

Please do the following to reset the virtual smart mailbox you see as Unified Inbox view.

In Thunderbird

  • 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information'
  • click on 'Open folder'

A new window opens showing the contents of your 'profile name' folder.

  • Exit Thunderbird now - this is important
  • Click on 'Mail' folder
  • delete the folder called 'smart mailboxes'
  • Restart Thunderbird.
