If you check your Downloads list from the arrow icon on the toolbar (this arrow hides until the first download of the session), is the file auto-downloading without asking?

If not, open Firefox's Browser Console before the next try. Either:

• "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
• (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console
• (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+j

Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the messages in the window, then switch back over to your main window and try the link again.

Then switch back over to the console window. Did Firefox log any errors related to the action?

Hmm, I don't think any of those errors should be fatal to downloading. They mostly seem to be about blocked tracking attempts. There are some sites where blocking tracking breaks things in a very non-obvious way, so you could try turning off Enhanced Tracking Protection on the site: click the shield icon at the left end of the address bar, and on the drop-down panel, click the slider switch button to turn it off. I believe the page needs to reload, so if you would lose work this way, try to make the change before setting up the page.

Forgot to answer you question: it is a 'watchlist' of stock quotes. Very similar to downloading bank statements, etc. Slightly different than some links that I click, which go directly to a 'Save' download only pop-up.

Tried disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection; no luck.

Hmm, why would a page open a private browsing window? Are you also already using the page in a private window?

Could you try diverting all new windows to tabs instead to see whether that makes any difference:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste neww and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Review/Edit the preference values as follows (double-click the current value to open an editing field, and then when you're done, press Enter or click the blue checkmark to save the change):

(A) browser.link.open_newwindow - for links in Firefox tabs

This is the one that has a checkbox on the Preferences page and determines whether targeted links are allowed to open in a new window or are diverted to a new tab instead; there's no effect on untargeted links:

• 3 = divert new window to a new tab (default)
• 2 = allow link to open a new window
• 1 = force new window into same tab

(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction - for links in Firefox tabs

Try 0 here:

• 0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows with limited features)
• 2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (default)
• 1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows

(C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external - for links in other programs

This preference governs those external links that open in Firefox:

• -1 = apply the setting under (A) to external links (default)
• 3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window
• 2 = open external links in a new window
• 1 = open external links in the last active tab replacing the current page

To return to normal if things go haywire, there's an arrow-like reset button at the right end of each of those rows if it has a non-default value.

Are you using permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History) ?

If you do, does it work properly in regular mode ?

I changed my Options to [ X ] Open links in tabs instead of new windows - Success. It attempts to open a tab but then I get the Pop-up to download. = Thanks!

Since I prefer to open New Windows, I did some experimenting. Instead of clicking the TDA link 'Export all data', I right click it and select Open in new window. And then the pop-up works.

So, at least I have a work around for my standard operating procedure.

Note: I tried Regular mode (vs Private browsing) but had the same problem.

You can possibly Shift+click a link to open the link in a new window.
