Does Firefox for Mobile support Java?
The web-browser type of Java, not J2ME. I need to access certain pages via the browser which are built in Java.
Thanks,
Diana

Plugins are disabled by default. If plugins were enabled and if the OS had a Java install, then Firefox Mobile would be able to use Java.
Thank you for your reply. I don't actually know if the OS has a Java install, I could not find that information. If, so far, Firefox Mobille only runs on Nokia N900, then the question to ask is: does Nokia N900 have a Java install? Does anybody know? I was planning to buy an iphone, but I would settle for a Nokia or other phone if it really allows me to access the whole web, including Java applications on the web.
Thanks,
Diana
As far as I know, there's no Java plugin for the N900 or N810 right now. It's possible that the community could provide one, but it doesn't ship from Nokia with that support.
There is a working java 6 Standard edition (called embeddeed) from sun, which works quite well on N900. Only disadvantage: its a 90-days trial, then you have to reinstall. But its real java - standard edition. where is a firefox mobile plugin to enable java applets ?
I don't mind paying for it if it works! When you say real Java, do you mean it does not support Java applets? Excuse my ignorance, but I have the Java world not quite figured out yet.
As far as I figured out, the plugin shared library is within the edition. I could install it in firefox, as it obeys the rules for plugins, but unfortunately applets didnt work, as firefox mobile doesnt seem to be prepared for this. You can download a trial edition from sun (its called java embedded) which is usable for 3 months, then you have to reinstall it. Unfortunately sun is not interested in single customer but wants to sell the stuff only to manufacturers which buy thousands of licences at one.
I and many other people using java based phones hopes for a Mozilla Web Browser comes out for J2ME java phones. Remember there are still alot of java based phones that people do use for mobile browsing, especially in the Caribbean. Would there be any such developments?
