I don't understand the benefit of "Tab Utilities Options" and want to remove it. How please? I tried that feature because "Fox Tab" was no longer available with the 5.0 upgrade.

I loved "Fox Tab". A click and go to a website you had added to "top sites" previously. With the 5.0 upgrade, that feature is no longer available. That was a disappointment. Is there a similar feature "add on" that is like "Fox Tab" compatible with 5.0. If so I would like to know about that. Or better still....make "Fox Tab" useable with Firefox 5.0 If upgrades cancel previously downloaded features that really work...what's the point?

To remove an add-on, you can go here:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons

Then on the left click the Extensions category. The enabled add-ons are listed first, followed by the disabled add-ons.

I think people have reported that Foxtab causes new tabs (e.g., Ctrl+t) to open in the background. I haven't heard of any other problems (but I can't read everything posted here!).

If Firefox disabled some add-ons (especially extensions), it likely is because they include a list of compatible Firefox versions and haven't yet been updated for Firefox 5. If they worked on Firefox 4, there is a very good chance they will work on Firefox 5.

You can force Firefox to ignore add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.

Thanks jscher2000 for the very quick response!. I've removed "Tab Utilities" and will restart. Will also try to reinstall"Fox Tab". But when I initially tried to access "Fox Tab" after upgrading to 5.0, all I got was a black screen. When I looked at the "Feature Add Ons" menu, and found Fox Tab, the note stated that Fox Tab was not compatible with 5.0. I can try again....The sad part is that I had a lot of good sites on "Fox Tab". No longer therewith 5.0

Please respond and advise.

Hey jscher2000...Just tried to force install "Fox Tab" as suggested, on my upgraded 5.0 version. Message...."not compatible with 5.0". In my opinion. "Fox Tab" should be compatible with 5.0

Cheers....hope this can happen.

I read in another thread that you have to installed the "Compatibility Reporter" add-on and restart, and then you should be able to re-enable Fox Tab.

I installed "Compatibility Reporter" ....site indicated success...and restarted....but I tried to install Fox Tab. No success. Point me in the direction I need to go please.

I thought you had Fox Tab installed already from before and it just needed to be re-enabled. I don't know whether the compatibility reporter changes the install process...

I see there is a new upload that extends to Firefox 5 on the "all versions" page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxtab/versions/

I don't know how long the review takes, but the purpose of the review is for safety to minimize security risks created by add-ons. You have the choice to install now or wait.

I did have Fox Tab installed already but it when I look for it, it's not there (under customize tool bars...you know drag and drop into or out of tool bars.). It used to be there but not now. Maybe I'll try to install from Add Ons again, now that I have the "Compatibility Add On" installed. If that doesn't work I guess I'll just wait for the next new version of Fox Tab...compatible with versions beyond 4,0

Anyway, thanks for your help. I've learned a bit more about navigation.

But really, why upgrade when your favourite Add Ons won't work anymore??

Tried that. I'll wait for the new version of Fox Tab!! If you and your team have any clout....please make that happen with the wonderful Firefox techies. I really like FF and I can't be the only one missing Fox Tab.

Thanks for all the assistance....much appreciated.

Lo and Behold! A message indicating Fox Tab is now compatible with version 5.0. I followed the instruction and VIOLA! Everything is back! I don't know if you had a direct hand in making this happen jscher2000, but if you did...a HUGE THANK YOU! Regardless, a big thanks to the FF technical team for making this Add On compatible on 5.0. My faith in FF is restored!!
