I won't be able to recreate all of this from memory after darn styling in support.mozilla.com destroyed my reply.

I tried Firefox (5.0) File menu to import Opera (11.50) bookmarks and that failed, it was supposed to show checkmark list of what I wanted it did not, but continuing it said it was successful but did nothing.

Next I tried import of Opera bookmarks directly through Library list in Firefox since that was an option there to -- that failed to work as well.

This is what was successful.

((I didn't but then I know what I was looking for anyway, but still would be better.)) Add two bookmark separators at the very end of your Bookmarks Menu (one of the 3 main folders) so you will see where the Opera bookmarks get added.

backed up my Firefox bookmarks

Ctrl+Shift+B > Import and Restore > Backup >
c:\temp\bookmarks-2011-08-13.json so they can be restored if anything goes wrong, and I had bookmarked a few items (perhaps 3) today.

Create exported bookmarks from Opera, I had to select Bookmarks in opera bookmarks list, and choose bookmarks not Opera as folder

File > Import and Export > Export Bookmarks as HTML >

c:\temp\from_opera_2011-08-13.html -- (I think bookmarks here means the main folder, if that is correct that's cool because in Firefox there is no selective export only all)

verified that the HTML file was a valid file containing all of the bookmarks from Opera

Then in Firefox

Ctrl+Shift+B > Import and Backup > Import from File >
c:\temp\from_opera_2011-08-13.html

Bookmarks were added to the end of Bookmarks Menu the first folder added was Opera then Bookmarks -- looked good, but don't want them so selected everything from first folder added to last bookmark added with select then Shift+click to select through the end and deleted them (you select to left of folders and icons so you don't invoke them).
