Why does Firefox continue to include exceptions to sites allowed to add add-ons??

Under the security options a user can control which sites can include add-ons to Firefox. The is an option to provide exceptions. Firefox continues to add "addons.mozilla.org and marketplace.firefox.com" to the exceptions list. I remove them and then Firefox adds them back to the exceptions file. I would prefer to control when add-ons are installed so I do not want any exceptions and would like to be warn if it is occurring. How do I stop Firefox from re-installing these exceptions?

That happens when you reset these prefs on the about:config page that restore the default software exceptions for installing extensions and the market place.

If these prefs do not exist or are an empty string when you open the exception window then the corresponding default entry is recreated.

  • Tools > Options > Security : "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons": Exceptions

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Not a solution. I clear the exceptions in Tools > Options > Security. I say OK and exit FF. Then I get back into FF and everything is OK. But tomorrow I can bring up FF and it may be set back with the exceptions. I never touched any settings. IS there some other mechanism that resets the extensions?

The exceptions are only created when you open the exceptions window.

What is the value of the two pref I mentioned above when you start Firefox the next day and haven't checked the exceptions yet?

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Mote that previewing a lightweight theme (Persona) only work when addons.mozilla.org is whitelisted.
