I downloaded a firefox update yesterday, and it's sending out undeliverable emails from me to other sites.
I'm asking for my husband because he's trying to figure out what's wrong on his PC. He downloaded a Firefox update today and now his computer is automatically sending out undeliverable emails to other people/sites. He received an update on his computer that said Firefox update downloaded and ready to install.
Is this malware, and how does he remedy this?

One other thought: if someone captured or figured out his email password, he needs to change the password ASAP. He should do that on a computer you are confident is not infected.

Is it Windows or Mac?
For Windows, please have your husband run the malware cleaners in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
For Mac, please have your husband run this one: https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalw.../mac/.
Then, check for rogue extensions on Firefox's Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.
Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

By Firefox update you mean as a internal update and not from a website claiming to have a manual Firefox update file to install.
There has been a specific type of fake manual Firefox updates sites popping up on occasion in last short while. Below image is an example of this fake manual update page that installs a malware extension that usually starts with name of FF.
I believe the password change fixed it. Seems to be working now. Thanks for your help!
I had read that. But the update he used was from the Firefox site. So either it was just coincidental that it coincided with him doing an update. Not sure. But changing the password seems to have stemmed the bleeding.
