Trouble Using Sharepoint in Firefox on Windows 10

more options

I can no longer use Microsoft Sharepoint in Firefox. I can get to the Microsoft Office Portal site, but I can no longer get to Sharepoint in Firefox. It gives me a "can't sign in error." Any suggestions or support would be appreciated.

Hi, can you think of any changes you might have made to restrict cookies?

Thanks. I can't. I did install a Dashlane extension, though I disabled it and I didn't make a difference. I've tried to update my Windows and I cleared my cache. It still won't let me sign in.

One method to suss out a settings issue is:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Jan2021, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Jan2021 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Can you log in to Sharepoint in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Jan2021 will remain available for future testing.)

Thank. I created and tested the new profile successfully but no luck. Still the same issue. It tells me that is is "working...", flickers, and then tells me I cannot log in. Maybe it's a Microsoft issue?

Firefox's Developer Tools panel has two displays that could give more information.

Web Console - displays error and warning messages

You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+k

Then reload the page in the upper part of the tab and watch for error or security messages. Anything that sounds like something is being blocked?

Network Monitor - lists requests sent from the page and status codes for the responses

With the "Console" open, click the Network "tab" along that same row. Since the Monitor only shows requests since you opened the Developer Tools, you probably need to reload the page in the top part of the tab to gather any information.

Any requests blocked or returning codes of 400 or higher, whether same-site or cross-site?

Thanks! Here are the error messages I got. I've got a samesite=None issue I guess? There's a 404 code error.

Here is what it says in Console:

Cookie “CkTst” will be soon rejected because it has the “SameSite” attribute set to “None” or an invalid value, without the “secure” attribute. To know more about the “SameSite“ attribute, read https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Set-Cookie/SameSite BrowserControl.js:854:12 Source map error: Error: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource. Thank you. Here are the errors or issues I see in the Console view. Something about a Same-site=None?

(I'm not sure why your reply is in moderation; it only has a Mozilla URL in it. ??)

The SameSite cookie business is just a message to developers about changing coming in the future.

A SourceMap is a feature of the developer tools and doesn't reflect anything going wrong in the page.

The ones that puzzle me are the Resource URL lines. Those refer to an extension doing something. Not sure if it's doing something in the page, or in the developer tools?

When I try to load a Sharepoint URL from my history, the site redirects to

https://login.microsoftonline.com/

and if I'm not logged in, I need to log in, otherwise it redirects back to Sharepoint.

When I open the Storage Inspector tool (Shift+F9), it shows that the Sharepoint site uses cookies from two additional domains (third-party cookies):

  • outlook.office.com
  • webshell.suite.office.com

Do you see anything like that?

more options

No, i don't see those issues when I go to the Storage Inspector tool.

I have seen a 404 not found error.

GET https://login.microsoftonline.com/favicon.ico Status404 Not Found VersionHTTP/1.1 Transferred0 B (0 B size) Referrer Policystrict-origin-when-cross-origin

more options

Sorry, I get a 404 error. Mentions "strict-origin-when-cross-origin."

more options

Hmm, okay, but that request is for favicon.ico, so it shouldn't block the main page from loading.

I don't actually use the Portal site, I just use one of the links from the drop-down or go to the Sharepoint home page, whose address fits this template:

https://<companyname>.sharepoint.com/

I can try to test the portal later.
