I backed up the thunderbird profile as per video instructions to external drive. On the new pc I installed thunderbird and copied to the roaming folder the filed previously copied from old pc. After doing it and opening the thunderbird, it doesn't open as the old program, it keeps wanting me to set up and account and when I go to the thunderbird program I find 4 different profile names and i guess it correspond with the times I have tried copying the profile back into the new pc. Can any one shed a light on this for me please.

This happens because TB always installs a base profile and, on first starting, prompts for an email id. If you already have a profile, just click the 'home' tab and ignore the request for email id. Then, right-click near top of screen and activate the 'menu bar'. Then, click help>moretroubleshootinginformation, scroll down to Profiles, click about:profiles and you should see your profile listed among the others. Select it and you should be okay.
