After any reboot, clicking on the Firefox icon brings up "you must install". When we do that, all previous web-address favorites are gone. And the install-icon stays on my desktop; if I try to eject it, it says it can't because it is in use by our Firefox browser.

Try this :

1. Download the latest version from :

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

2. Trash your current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded (13.0.1).

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.
