Firefox doesn't close properly after using with Thunderbird, has to end task with task manager
After clicking on a link from Thunderbird email, Firefox opens first time, but after closing I am unable to open it again, as it says Firefox is still running although it is not. The process still runs as shown by Task Manager and have to end task to reload Firefox.
Have reinstalled it several times, but no look. So far it only seems to happen after opening Firefox through Thunderbird.
Any help to resolve this would be great as I do not want to resort to using IE

Yeah, that sounds like Bug 1005487. On comment 36, it says that the bug is not reproducible on the latest Beta. Others users have reported that the problem has been fixed in Firefox 30 beta8. You can go ahead and download the latest Beta to see if the issue stops there. I would love to hear if it is resolved.

Sorry, in my question above I mis spelled the word close it should say Firefox does not close properly after using a link from Thunderbird email.
Hmm, other users have reported that Firefox hangs on closing but I'm unsure if this problem is related.
Is Firefox able to close properly without using T-bird with it? Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear any personal data when you close Firefox? If so, please change that as that can cause problems with Firefox still running in the background
Have tried what you said with no luck. The Firefox process remains active even without using t-bird. It seems to happen after the second time I've loaded Firefox. In other words, when I open and close Firefox the first time - no problem, but the second time I open it it hangs and you dont know its running until you try to load Firefox again, then you have to use Task Manager to end the process.

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may be caused by the clear history settings.
Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;
Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences
Then Privacy.
The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866?esab=a&s=&r=1&as=s {web link}
Have installed the beta version and all seems ok up to press.
Will keep an eye on it and get back if it fails.
Many thanks.
Thank you for reporting back! Please give it a few more days and if it doesn't hang on exit, we can close this thread off as solved :)
Firefox has no hanged since installing the beta version.
One question though do I update with the latest version of firefox when released, or not?
If you prefer releases to betas, I would get the next release when it is available and install that.
Anne,
You can safely uninstall the beta then jump over to the release.
Make sure NOT to remove "personal data" when you uninstall a Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Note that you switch to the beta update channel (see Help > About) if you install a Firefox beta release. Firefox 30 will be released next Tuesday (June 10th).
