Yes, most plugins default to requiring site-by-site approval. This is to protect you from "drive by" attacks. If you want to give all sites pre-approval to use the Java plugin, you can change the setting on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Java (TM) Platform SE 8" and there you can change "Ask to Activate" to "Always Activate" if you like.

I am not aware of any plans to stop supporting the Java plugin in the near future. However, yours is about 6 months old now, two quarterly updates behind, so perhaps it will be blocked? You can update from this page: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
