I had the yahoo toolbar installed and then I lost everything when trying to install Windows 10. I have put Mozilla back on my laptop but when I try to download the yahoo toolbar the message come up that there is a connection problem (that's after Firefox says it will not allow the install.) The site I have tried downloading from is https://toolbar.yahoo.com/?.intl=us. No luck. Please help.

I'm not sure why, but some users are unable to install toolbars from third party websites (such as Yahoo and LastPass) when the initial download URL is redirected to a different URL.

In this case, it starts off as:

https://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/_ylt=AkypkOgcRYp9hr2TbG1teUc0RAUJ?.intl=us&.redir=1&.cpdl=tyc9&.promo=&sethomesearch=0

But the server redirects Firefox to:

https://sxp.yimg.com/ei/toolbar/ie/yahootoolbar-3.2.11.20150226051211_intl-_sc-_pc-_dc-.xpi

If you can't figure out what is blocking Firefox from following the redirect and fix that, you can download the toolbar using a different browser. You can save the .xpi file in Downloads, for example. Then you can load it into Firefox using one of these methods:

  • Drag and drop the .xpi file on an open Firefox tab
  • On the Add-ons page (Ctrl+Shift+a or Tools > Add-ons), click the "gear" button above the list of extensions/plugins and choose "Install Add-on from file"
