I would like to have a bar that shows me the tabs that are open, like it was on older versions. When I command T it only shows me three tabs. The other tabs are open as I can hear the audio playing but can't get to them

Are these tabs all in the same Firefox window?

If you do not need these tabs then you can delete the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder with the Firefox application closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I would like to see the tabs that are open. command T will not show tabs that are open Can I not have a tab bar like older versions How can I close the tab I am in. Tabs were never this hard to use as they are in this version. Macbook, El capitan firefox 54.0.1

You can use the Command+W keyboard shortcut to close the current tab.

Do new windows also miss the Tab bar?

It is possible that you are in some kind of pop-up window with the Tab bar hidden. There are some prefs present on the about:config page to disable some features, but no specific one for the Tab bar.

  • dom.disable_window_open_feature

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Firefox's tab bar has not changed drastically in recent versions.

Does it seem that the top of the window might be behind the menu bar (off screen to the top)? Firefox has some files that store window positions so potentially that could have become corrupted.

I think Command+t will a new tab and display thumbnails of frequently visited pages. There are some add-ons that could display a list of tabs, so perhaps you used to have one of those but now it is missing or disabled and that's why Command+t isn't doing what you expect? Just a guess!

So what you are saying is that this version should and can have a tab bar? Since I upgraded I have not had a tab bar. I switched to Chrome but it is a power hungry app that is really bad. I will have to go back to that if I can't get the tabs working because it is impossible to use this the way it is. Open a new tab and can't ever find the open tabs to use them again. There open, just no path to them. 52 tabs open only 3 are shown with command T Command W hides the app and other appps.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
