Video Download Helper v 6.2.0 will only download 246.4k mp3 files and 1 k mp4 files. It used to work but not anymore.
I am running Firefox 55.03 32 bit and Video Download Helper 6.2.0 on a win 7 64 bit machine. I just had to return to this earlier version of Firefox because some of my essential add ons would not function with the new Quantum version. After doing this I also had to return to an earlier version of VD Helper. I then noticed the problem that any mp3 download is only 246.4Kb long. Looking back at my saved directory I see that this problem has been around since late August /early September 2017 and I hadn't noticed it before. When I download an MP4 file it is 1K in size. I tried v 6.3.3 of VD Helper and that didn't seem to help either
I am not sure how to fix this problem. Any advice would be welcome.
thanks

Find a alternative : https://mozilla.github.io/extension-finder/
You are running a unsupported browser 55.0.3 with vulnerabilities and ...
Unfortunately you possibly went about it the wrong way. This the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 is no longer safe to use for every day use do to security issues, but 52.5.0 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.
You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Thank you for your help . I ran the 32 bit 55.0.3 exe install over the Quantum version to go back. If I understand correctly you are saying that version 52.5.0 is the preferred version to be using.
The real show stopper for me is that I need to be using ruTorrent WebUI or something similar and this didn't function on the new 64 bit Quantum version. Is there anything similar which will function on the Quantumn version. Flash Control is very useful as well with my metered connection.
thanks for your help

Correct
Most but not completely all Extensions will work in the ESR version. Install and if it works great. You will not get not compatible with ver 57.
Enjoy till March which gives time for Developers to make new ones and code to come out.

I will tackle this tomorrow morning.
If I remove the old Firefox as you have suggested will I have to re -install my Firefox extensions or will they come along OK?
thanks
Lets put this way, maybe, maybe not. You may have to go to the Extension Page and upper right corner Click the Gear Icon to update them.
Worse case go to them all and reinstall.

Thank you for all your help. The original issue appears to be a problem between Video Download Helper and the Mixcloud website. The ESR version of Firefix was unable to fix this problem and I found another app that deals with the mixcloud downloads perfectly.

The good thing to come out of this is that I found out about the Firefox 52.5.0 ESR version which I have installed on all 3 of my pc's here and my add ons all work very well now. I shall be staying with this version for quite a while.
I opted for the 32 bit version even though this is a 64 bit OS. I read that more add ons work on the 32 bit version than on the 64 bit version. Am I correct in thinking this ?
That would be correct for the older addons. Note: You only have until March end before they update and the extensions are removed due to security issues. Some to a lot of these addons have been abandoned for 7-8yrs with no updates.
These crash Firefox more than Firefox is the cause of crashes. Is why the re-write of code.
To find Extensions for the future : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/ and previous mentioned https://mozilla.github.io/extension-finder/ And should be planning on that.
If system is getting close to 5yrs old then almost end of life for it.
