Chrome, Chromium and Opera dropped support of Java and other NPAPI Plugins back in 2015.

Even Oracle has mentioned for a long while they were looking at depreciating their Java Plugin (for browsers).

Hi Gmercer, what brought on this bizarre rant?

Standardized by ECMA, and natively supported by Firefox and other modern browsers with no need for a plugin, JavaScript is the programming language of the open web. At least until something better comes along.

If you are having problems with JavaScript in your Firefox, lack of Java plugin support is not the reason. Feel free to post a question if you need support.

What does Javascript have to do with my "rant?" If you read what I wrote in the "rant," you would have seen no mention of javascript. You guys are living in a strange world if you didn't know that Java is the most widely used programming language on the planet. Microsoft's, Apple's and Google's browsers all support java. All of my Java programs function just fine in them with no problems. In fact, Firefox is the only browser that doesn't support a java plug-in. I thought my question was rather obvious. "No Java? Really?" Enough said. Call it solved if you want. Good luck

You are on Windows XP, so likely you use older versions of the other browsers you mention that still support Java because the current Google Chrome version doesn't. The Firefox 52 ESR version you need on Windows XP also supports the Java plugin, so there shouldn't be a problem for you, but you would have to install the ESR version on devices that use a more recent Windows 7+ version.

What is an example of a Java applet that runs in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge? Old browsers, sure, Firefox 52 ESR, yes, but Java plugins are on the way out in modern browsers.

Google Chrome probably stopped supporting XP years ago, so you likely have a very old Google Chrome version that apparently still supports Java in case this works.

Your useragent appears to be Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 which is Firefox 52 ESR on Windows XP.

You say Safari and Google/Chromium still supports the Java Plugin on your system well that is only because you are using rather old (vulnerable) versions of those browsers. In Fact Firefox 52 ESR is the only still updated web browser around to use the Java Plugin (on WinXP/Vista), not the other way. IE 9 can run Java Plugin but it only receives security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support on Windows 7,8,10.

Google Chrome has stopped supporting the old EOL Windows XP and Vista since Chrome 50 in April 2016.

Chrome/Chromium (and Opera) has indeed stopped NPAPI Plugins support which includes Java. Chrome 42 was the first version to disable NPAPI by default, version 45 was the first to drop support completely.

While Mozilla still supports WinXP/Vista with Firefox 52 ESR which does allow other NPAPI Plugins (besides the Adobe Flash Player) to run in Firefox. On Windows you need the 32-bit Firefox 52 ESR to use Java Plugin. The Firefox 52 ESR will be updated until Firefox 52.8.0esr out in May 2018, two years since Chrome/Chromium dropped support of WinXP/Vista. While you may get the differences, many less informed people mixed the Java and JavaScript up or thought one needed Java Plugin for JavaScript in Firefox to work. If JavaScript had kept the name of LiveScript there would have been no confusion between the two all these years. We just mentioned in case as the confusion between the two happens quite often here and all around.
