It is quite normal to see three or more Firefox processes running.

  • one process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
  • one or more content processes, see:
    Options/Preferences -> General -> Performance
    remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
  • one process for the compositor thread
  • one process for the WebRender thread when this feature is enabled
  • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/performance-settings

You can find the current multi-process state on the Troubleshooting Information page (about:support).

  • "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" -> "Application Basics":
    Multiprocess Windows
    Remote Processes

See also the Remote Processes section further down for more detail.

how do i stop this from running every time

You can use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar to make sure Firefox closes properly.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Issues with dragging a link to the Desktop can happen if you made changes to the UAC settings. Try to launch Firefox with the -no-deelevate command line switch.

is there a way to disable the launcher process. with out activating UAC. and what isdeleevate and where do i find it

more options

I am not that computer savvy so i am not sure i fully understand what to do

more options

-no-deelevate is a command line switch that you would have to add to the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (leave space before the switch). "<path to firefox>\firefox.exe" -no-deelevate
