inbox emails with no valid from address
I have started to get a lot of Junk/Spam emails that have no valid from address. They all end up in my inbox because they seem to be able to bypass all spam filters. Is there a way I can set up a rule or filter to put these in my junk box?

Hello, There is a good article describing on how you can "train" your spam detection capabilities: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages
The article also covers information on how you can create custom filters for spam detection purposes.
I hope that helps!

Hi Bogomil,
The article was very helpful. I do have a question about creating custom filters. Since most spam now has no valid email addresses, no @, I tried to create a filter with "From address does not contain the @". This did not work and it actually removed all my emails from my inbox. Fortunately I was able to restore them but am now very hesitant to try that again. Have you had any experience with creating this kind of filter? Amy suggestions?
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom, Uh, sorry about that. Can you add here an example of an e-mail/spam without the @?
Bogo
Hi Bogo,
I went looking for an example and made a discovery. It turns out that on my Iphone when the From address contains a lot of extraneous information the email address is truncated so I cant see it. There for I assumed that there would be no @. on my computer they do have an email address with an @. Unfortunately the address is not a valid one and on many they use the same address. I.E. 'with text in front like "Dear customer happy birthday to you, Dear customer happy birthday to you then "homedepotcanada@email.homedepot.ca"
When I checked the Blocked Contacts list on the Iphone I noticed that most of the recent email senders I blocked don't have an email address even though on Thunderbird I can see them. I assume therefore that the from address must have a code embedded that causes the content to be truncates screwing up the block list.
Since I use Thunderbird only on my PC any spam filtering I do will not affect what goes to the phone. It looks like I will have to setup filters on the web based Outlook.
Anyway sorry to have troubled you.
