I have seen elsewhere that the calendar is causing problems with the latest Thunderbird update, but there was no calendar after the update. Sometimes I can't open Thunderbird at all, other times I can see emails but can't write new ones, use the address book, use help, etc. I tried to open safely and remove addons but nothing happened. When I closed and tried to open it again, it wouldn't open at all.

Chosen solution

Try to create a new profile via profile manager and set up your account again in the new profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles

Make sure to start Thunderbird with the new profile, either via profile manager or create a new desktop icon for the new profile.

If things are working you can later carry over mail or address book from your old profile.

Start Thunderbird in safe mode. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird Uninstall Lightning via the Add-Ons Manager. Restart Thunderbird. Re-install Lightning in case it's needed.

Thanks, I have already tried all those things, but I still can't reply, forward, write new emails, access the address book, help etc.

That seems to be working, although I haven't put all my email addresses into the new profile yet. Thanks for your help :)
