When I click on my Facebook Icon, two Facebook pages load. I'm not sure if one of them is a fake page.

Hello All,

I now have 2 Facebook windows, instead of one. It's never happened to me before. I use Mozilla Firefox and never had any problems.

What happens is that I will click on the FB icon, and the front page opens up. My email address is already populated, and so all I need to do is to type in my password. After I type in my password, a FB page pops up and the page looks normal. But when I hit the 'back' button on my computer, it shows another FB page of mine!

Also, when I close out of FB, I can see the 2nd page on my desktop, and then I have to close that! It used to just completely close, and I would have a clean desktop. I wonder if one is a fake FB page? I reached out to FB and they were of no help. They could not see any problems. <sigh>

So I thought I would reach out to Mozilla to see if I reset a setting somewhere...as I had also deleted my first Mozilla browser and started a brand new browser/download/installation..etc.

Also, I 'am' familiar with opening a new window, using the 'right' click function on the mouse.

Has anyone ever had this issue?

Thank you!

Hi, well let's start with your suspicion that it is fake so you find out and feel better about what is going on. Please scan : https://www.malwarebytes.com/

How about deleting the shortcut on your desktop and creating another.

What extensions are you running and what Security software are you using please ?

Hello Pkshadow!

Love your Avitar!  :)

Okay, so I did a 'Windows Defender' scan and had no threats. I will do the malwarebytes scan if I am able to do so. I will get back to you on the results.

Good point about deleting the shortcut and creating a new one. I will try that as well, and report back the results.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'extensions.'

As stated above, I am running Windows Defender.

Thank you!

Hi Cate1, thanks. Ya the Malwarebytes is for malware while Defender really just does Anti-Virus. You get a free 2wks of full real time protection before it reverts to a free program on demand scan. A quick scan takes about 10 -15 mins depending and you can do something else while it does it's thing.

So am hoping does not find anything and shortcut was the issue.

Hi again Pkshadow!

Hey, thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, I was not able to resolve the Facebook 2 page issue after a malware scan, or a windows defender scan, or a new FB icon.

The Malware program did find 43 threats, they were isolated and deleted. There were no threats on the WD scan.

I did not create a new FB icon, but rather, I just typed in Facebook in the url toolbar and after I entered my email and password, I was on the first page, and again, I clicked the back button and found the second page.

I was hoping it was a Mozilla Firefox setting.

Thanks for your help!

I'll keep searching.  :)

You probably just had two windows, both with Facebook open. did the URLs both start with www.facebook.com? I'm fairly certain you're all good to go.

Does this happen frequently?

Hello Tyler Downer,

Yes, I think I do have two windows open, but they are not indicated as such (meaning 2 separate tabs), but just being able to go backward and forward between each one.

Both of the pages start with https://www.facebook.com and have a 'green' solid lock in front of the web address.

Well, it just started happening, and I believe it started after I deleted my original Mozilla web browser, and started all over again with a new Mozilla web browser (with all of the default settings). I changed the default settings so that I do not see the 'news' articles that are on the front page. I just have the icons of the web pages of my recent visits on the front page.

Thank you!
